NITRA: Unlocked

“Each Day
Feels like I’m beating the ground
Feels like I’m being pushed around
By my own
Dubious demons
The Sun forgot to shine my way
The moon won’t grow full for me
And it rains for 85% of my day
But oh I won’t give up NOOOO
Noooo I’m waiting on the those rainbows but the storm won’t subside…” -Nitra

A new Star is in the rise. Her name is NITRA. She is talented; she is honest; she is dreaming big. No one can escape being touched by her music and lyrics.

This is our first interview with singer and songwriter Nitra Aiken.

Private Paparazzi Productions: Tell us a bit about yourself and your artistic journey.

Nitra: My journey began, when I was a kid. I always had to be in every play, every talent show you name it. Always singing in the bathroom and always performing in my head. Singing and entertaining has always been my passion and number one Love…

PPP: When did you realize your unique talent?

Nitra: My first talent show. I was so scared that I sang the entire song with my eyes closed. After, I got a standing ovation… That’s when I knew this is what I had to accomplish in this life.

PPP: Where do you find your inspiration?

Nitra: Well, I guess it just depends. My inspiration for this album really came from a breakup with someone that I was with for about ten years, and all of our ups and downs. Heartbreak was my muse—so was pain.

PPP: What musicians were your biggest influences?

Nitra: Sam Cooke, Lauryn Hill, Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Nirvana.

PPP: Tell us about your band.

Nitra: As far as the band is concerned, I feel very honored to play with four very talented guys. I owe it to Joe Mass for putting the band together. Joe plays guitar, Stacey– the bass, Eric—the drums, and Kayla– the keyboards. They all have experience playing professionally with highly successful artists, and I am so honored that they believe in the talent and dream of NITRA to make my dream a reality. I love them.

PPP: How was your new album “Unlocked” was born?

Nitra: {Laughs}. Going through heartbreak not only can make you create an album but a book– maybe even a whole library. It’s called Unlocked, because I’m sharing my soul with the world– like I’m giving the world a key to open my soul and feel my pain, my happiness–everything.

PPP: What has been your biggest struggle, as an artist?

Nitra: My biggest struggle right now is getting the capital to back the project. But I will have it, as soon as the album is good enough to make investors understand my vision. There is no doubt I will get this…. But first, you must invest in yourself. I have been very fortunate with the band, and with Inna, the photographer and my friend, who gives me wonderful suggestions. She also does my publicity and makeup, because I’m no good at that. {Laughs} She has been a great help, as well and believes in my dream. THANKS, INNA RACE! Also, Jay, for helping us take fabulous pictures.

PPP: What do you want to be known for, as an artist?

Nitra: I think it’s important for an artist to not only sing well but also know how to entertain. I want the world to see me as an inspiration and know that you can rise from the ashes against all odds and adversity, and still make your dreams come true. Make Plan A happen! Plans B is only a distraction from Plan A… Also, accept who you are, and be the best You that there is. I know I’m a little crazy, but hey, I would take crazy over normal any day. Normal is boring. And trust me, there is no such thing… Take everything that planet Earth has to offer, because we are all falling stars that come from the cosmos to help, heal, and inspire each other…Then, when it’s my time, off to the other galaxy I go.

“Time has left me standing steal
Thoughts trapped on a spinning wheel
That doesn’t want for me to depart
And oh my heart
It won’t beat and play its part
But I remind it we must win
We mustn’t give in
Cause I know there are times when you just feel low life won’t let you rise
But we must stay strong and continue to rise
Know that it all starts in our mind….” -Nitra, Each Day

We are looking forward to Nitra’s first CD to be launched for our listening pleasure. We are tuning in, eager to discover our new favorite songs!
