Hector Cardona – Prêt à Porter

Hector Cardona is one of the talented designers who showed his ready to wear collection at The Art Gala event on May 7th in Philadelphia.
The designer has a very impressive resume: 15 years Visual Merchandising experience; Studying at The Art Institute of Philadelphia with a full tuition Scholarship; Visual Merchandiser for Warner Bros. Studio Stores while attending The Parsons School of Design for Continuing Education; Production Assistant at Geoffrey Beene Inc.; Gap Inc. (NYC and San Juan, PR) recruited me as a Visual Merchandiser; Gaining press coverage five times in Revista Caras (a major Latin American magazine).
In 2007, Hector opened his own small business in Puerto Rico and his garments were on display at The Gebert Contemporary Art Gallery in Arizona. While working for Lands’ End, he traveled around Eastern Pennsylvania stores as their Visual Merchandising Lead. Currently, he is the Visual Merchandising Lead for Lovesac at the King of Prussia Mall.
We asked Hector to let us know a little bit more about his artistic life.
Private Paparazzi Productions: When did you find your love for designing dresses?
Hector Cardona: I’ve been drawing women dresses since I was nine. At a very young age I new that a wanted to become a Fashion Designer. At the Age of 18 I was awarded The Art Institute International Fashion Design Scholarship and that was the beginning of my fashion career.
PPP: Where do you find your inspirations?
H.C.: I find inspiration on everyday women seeing what they wear and understanding what they want.
PPP: What designers have influenced you the most?
H.C.: I have to say Geoffrey Beene one of Americas most important designer and my mentor.
PPP: What interesting projects are you working on now?
H.C.: I’m actually working on my spring summer 2017 collection its going to be very exciting and full off color very tropical.
PPP: What are the biggest challenges to be a fashion designer?
H.C.: Keeping up to date with latest trend and staying fresh yet keeping your aesthetics.
PPP: What advice would you give to a new fashion designer?
H.C.: Stay focus keep dreaming and don’t let nobody tell you what you can do.
PPP: What impact do you hope to make in the next 5 years as a fashion designer?
H.C.: Dress every socialite in Philadelphia and the world lol.
PPP: What is your favorite achievement as a fashion designer?
H.C.: My favorite achievement in fashion is every time a finish a collection. And seeing how I can turn a flat piece of fabric into something beautiful.
PPP: What is your biggest achievement in life?
H.C.: My biggest achievement has been being published in major fashion magazines and my work being exhibit at The Gerbert Contemporary Art Gallery in Arizona.

Hector Cardona: I want to be known for dressing the most beautiful sophisticated women in the world.
